Change your Discord Display Name

1. On desktop or in a browser, open User Settings, choose My Account, then open Profiles. On mobile, open the You tab and choose Edit Profile.
2. In the User Profile area, select Display Name instead of the Username setting.
3. Copy one candidate from the list and paste it once in Display Name. The field accepts from 1 to 32 characters.
4. Save, then open a direct message and check the name on your profile card. A server without its own nickname uses this Display Name.
5. If a server shows another name, open Profiles → Per-server Profiles and check whether you have Change Nickname permission before changing it. That is a separate field.
6. For a blank-looking message, use a private channel you control, paste once, and inspect it before sending. Restore readable text if Discord shows a box or removes the candidate.

Discord uses three different names in different places: your unique Username, your Display Name, and an optional server nickname. A server nickname takes priority only inside that server.

The compatibility table records Display Name and message results separately. Keep a readable fallback ready, because a result in one field does not settle the filter for the other two names.
